Reading the Newspaper

I got a free newspaper! They were being handed out at a stop light. I'm not sure if they were given away to advertise or if they were paid for by the city.
I was going to read it and write about some local happenings here on my blog, but the newspaper was instead appropriated to wrap spinach and cilantro for refrigeration.
Too bad.

So, off the top of my head, some things that have been happening in Mexico.

Item 1.
A report reveals that nothing has yet been done in the Guadalajara metro area to prevent the kind of flooding that occured last year, which shut down main roads for hours and even caused some deaths. (rain season started in May)
The president (mayor) of Guadalajara (who's name happens to be Peterson) says it's up to each municipality to carry out its own flood prevention.

Item 2.
A Senator is bringing charges against former president Vicente Fox and the current governor of Oaxaca over protesters killed by police and army during an uprising in 2006.

Item 3.
According to polls a majority of Mexicans
1. approve of the governments actions in fighting orgainzed crime.
and
2. believe the government is losing the fight.

Item 4.
Hundreds of millions of US dollars worth of construction is going into sports stadiums all over Mexico, including new stadiums for football teams in Monterrey, Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana, Guadalajara, and one in Torreon which includes a shopping mall and hotel.

Well, that's the best I can come up with right now.

Later.
